Ponteland Castle

Ponteland Castle was a tower block on what is now the A696 13 km northwest of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the English county of Northumberland .

William de Valence had the residential tower built in the 13th century. It was partially destroyed in an attack by the Scots in 1388. In the 17th century , a Jacobean mansion was built around the ruins of the residential tower , which is now known as the Blackbird Inn .
