The four-lane road from the center of Newcastle to Newcastle Airport crosses the A1 as part of the western bypass of Newcastle, runs through Ponteland after the airport and then crosses Northumberland in a north-westerly direction , passes Kirkwhelpington and finally arrives north-west of Otterburn in Elishaw the Northumberland National Park border onto the A68 road coming from Darlington , which continues over the border with Scotland to Edinburgh.
