The continuous two-lane road branches off the A1 road north of Morpeth , runs west of the A1 in a north-north-westerly direction through Longhorsley and Longframlington , on via Powburn and Wooler , turns there to the west-north-west and then to the north-north-west, reaching via Milfield and Cornhill-on -Tweed the English-Scottish border formed by tweed at Coldstream . In Scotland it continues in a north-west to west-north-west direction via Greenlaw to Oxton , where it meets and ends at the A68 road , which runs from Darlington to Edinburgh .
