Popeye Village

Popeye Village , also known as Sweethaven Village , is a set city in Malta that director Robert Altman had built in 1979 for the film Popeye - The Sailor with the Hard Knock . Today the place is used as an amusement park.

The place is located about two kilometers west of the city of Mellieħa in the northwest of the island of Malta on the shores of Anchor Bay . Construction began in 1979 and it took about seven months to complete the site with 19 wooden houses, paths and port facilities.

The place was preserved after the film was shot, expanded and is now used as the Popeye Village Fun Park . The park is open daily and offers shows and boat tours on Anchor Bay in addition to the characteristic houses. Various props from the film are on display in some houses. In the cinema with around 40 seats in the center of the village, a film informs visitors about the construction of the scenery and the filming. After two fires, the Popeye Village was rebuilt in the same style.
