Jean-Louis "Popots" Winterstein (born May 29, 1964 in Forbach ) is a French guitarist of gypsy jazz .

Winterstein came from a musical Manouche family; his brother Hono (* 1962) is also a swing manouche guitarist. At the age of eleven he began to teach himself to play the guitar; He had his first appearances in 1980 at the Caveau des Trinitaires in Metz as a member of the quartet of Dorado Schmitt . Since then he has worked as a rhythm guitarist with Dorado and Samson Schmitt ( Djieske , EMD 2002), Timbo Mehrstein ( Maré Tchavengé , EMD 2012) and with his son Benji (* 1991), also on a local level with Gallo Weiss (guitar) and Gaston Michel ( Accordion), with whom he produced the album Café noir . Together with Geisela Reinhardt, he directs the Reinhardt-Winterstein-Ensemble .
