Samson Schmitt

Samson Schmitt (born September 20, 1979 in Creutzwald ) is a French gypsy jazz guitarist.

Samson Schmitt is a son of the jazz violinist Dorado Schmitt , from whom he learned to play the guitar. At the age of 12 he performed for the first time at the Munich International Jazz Festival, where he made music together with other Sinti youth. With his father as well as Jay Leonhart and Grady Tate he made guest appearances at the Django Reinhardt NY Festival in New York's Birdland in 2002 . In the same year he made his debut album Djieske in Nancy , on which Dorado Schmitt u. a. the guitarists Popots Winterstein , Hono Winterstein and the bassist Jean Cortes participated. In the following years he worked a. a. with Florin Niculescu ( Django Tunes , 2009) and Mayo Hubert ( Caravan de Santino , 2011), he was also a member of the formation Les Enfants de Django around Yorgui Loeffler and Mike Reinhardt ( Live in Paris au Méridien Étoile , 2008). In 2012 he performed with the Django Festival Allstars at Birdland in Paris . In the field of jazz he was involved in twelve recording sessions between 2002 and 2015.

In the film Django: A Life for the Music by Etienne Comar, he plays a friend of Django Reinhardt .
