Poppo I. (grave field)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Poppo (I.) von Grabfeld , who probably descends from the Robertine Cancor , count in the Rheingau , is the oldest documented ancestor in the male line of the Franconian Babenbergs . Therefore this old noble family is also called Popponen . The Popponen or Franconian Babenbergers are not to be equated with the (Austrian) Babenbergers .

Poppo I. von Grabfeld was in the early 9th century AD (first documented mention 819 to 839) Gaugraf in Grabfeld , which lies in today's border area between the German states of Bavaria and Thuringia . In 819/839 he also appears as a count in Saalgau . He died around 839/841.
