Poppo Graf von Andechs-Meranien (* 1175 ; † December 4, 1245 ), uncle of Saint Hedwig of Silesia , was Bishop of Bamberg from 1237 to 1242. He was the third member of the Bamberg bishop's seat of the family of the Counts of Andechs .

Life

He was elected Bishop of Bamberg in September 1237 . But the financial situation of the bishopric was strained and so he had to pledge the property of the monastery in order to be able to repay debts. Pope Gregory IX In 1239 once again banned Emperor Friedrich II ; Poppo came into contact with the anti-imperial party, whereupon Frederick II, on whom he had sworn an oath of allegiance, charged him with breaking the oath of allegiance, defection from the emperor and throwing away diocesan property. In the first half of the year 1242, Poppo was found guilty and declared forfeit of his sovereign rights . For Poppo, who did not receive the episcopal ordination, this judgment amounted to a dismissal. He died on December 4, 1245.
