The Porpoise Basin is a lake basin just off the Banzare coast of the East Antarctic Wilkesland .

The basin is named after the name of the neighboring Porpoise Bay . Its namesake is the Porpoise , one of the ships of his United States Exploring Expedition (1838–1842) under the direction of Charles Wilkes . The naming of the basin has been recognized by the Advisory Committee for Undersea Features (ACUF) since December 1971 .
