The Port Charlotte Village Hall is the former church, school and later community hall of the Scottish community of Port Charlotte , which is located in the southwest of the Hebridean island of Islay . The building is on School Street ( Gaelic : Sraid na Sgoile ) in southwest Port Charlotte. Port Charlotte Village Hall has been a B category on the British List of Monuments since March 26, 1986 .

description

The building is on a hill opposite the sports field and is therefore higher than most of the buildings in the coastal town. Initially a school was housed in the building, which was built around 1830. On the east side, in the center of the main building, below an arched window, there is a former roofed terrace, which is now a small, closed wing in front of the house. There is a double-leaf door on the right. Just like the main building, the two-story wings end with slate-covered gable roofs to the north and east . Only the short south wing has half a tent roof . Numerous lattice windows are installed around the building . A small, open bell tower is placed centrally on the main building at the east end. Parts of the building were not added until around 1880. The building was sold to private customers in 2003 and today there are holiday apartments in it.
