Port Hedland is located on the Australian northwest coast about 1300 kilometers north of the capital Perth . The seat of the Town Council is in the city of Port Hedland , where about 13,800 inhabitants live (2016).

The Port Hedland Council has eight members, seven councilors and the mayor and chairperson of the council are elected by all residents of the LGA. Port Hedland is not divided into districts.
