Portable contacts

Portable contacts is an open standard that should make it easier for developers to provide their users with a secure way of accessing their address books and contact lists that they have built up over the web.

target

The aim of the project is to increase the data portability by creating a general and open specification for proprietary contact programming interfaces (API for short) such as B. to bridge Google's G-Data contacts API, Yahoo's address book API and Microsoft Livs contact API.

The creator of the portable contacts specification was Joseph Smar ( Plaxo company ), he was supported by Chris Messina (famous open source advocate).

use

The "Portable Contacts" protocol is used by services such as B. Google Contacts , Windows Live Messenger Connect, as well as other specifications such as. B. OStatus .
