OStatus

OStatus (original name of the project: OpenMicroBlogging ) is an open protocol that allows microblogging services to communicate with one another in a decentralized manner. The individual OpenMicroBlogging services communicate with one another via the OAuth and Yadis protocols, so that the user is also able to subscribe to messages from other services.

history

The OpenMicroBlogging specification was published on June 7, 2008 by Evan Prodromou, the developer of the free reference implementation StatusNet (then Laconica) and operator of the identi.ca platform based on it until July 2013 . The TodaysMama Connect service and Leo Laportes Twit Army also use Laconica.

Since March 2009 the search at identi.ca shows user accounts at Twit Army. It is possible to subscribe to messages from users at Twit Army via an account at identi.ca. Floss.pro , another service based on Laconica , was launched in April 2009 .

Another implementation of the OpenMicroBlogging protocol is the OpenMicroBlogger software .

The project has been continued under the name OStatus since March 2010. The protocol has now been implemented in whole or in part by Google Buzz , StatusNet , Friendica , WordPress.com and Tumblr .
