The Portageville Bridge is a railway bridge near Portageville in the state of New York in the USA that was completed in 2017 . It is on the Norfolk Southern main line from Buffalo to Binghamton .

The Portageville Bridge replaces the Portageville Viaduct , an 1875 steel bridge that was previously in use. Norfolk Southern invested approximately $ 70 million. The bridge was designed by Modjeski & Masters as a steel arch bridge and built by the general contractor American Bridge Company with steel girders from Canam Bridges .

The foundation stone for the new bridge was laid on October 27, 2015; the bridge was completed before the actual schedule, which was planned for 2018. The first regular train passed the new structure on December 11, 2017. After the state of New York decided not to purchase the historic bridge from 1875 for financial reasons, it was dismantled on the morning of March 20, 2018, except for the foundations, and scrapped .
