Portal Tomb of Crevolea

The portal Tomb von Crevolea (also "The Gray Stone"; German  " Grauer Stein" ) is located about 5.5 km from Macosquin and 8.0 km northwest of the Passage Tomb von Moneydig on a small hill in the townland Crevolea ( Irish Craobhach Liath ) in County Londonderry in Northern Ireland . In the British Isles, portal tombs are megalithic systems in which two upright stones of the same height with a door stone in between form the front of a chamber that is covered with a sometimes huge capstone.

The remains of the Portal Tomb mainly consist of the massive capstone, which weighs over 50 tons. In 1837, when the megalithic complex was still complete, it was over 4.0 meters high and the capstone, which was at least 2.0 m long, wide and 1.5 m thick, lay on the portal stones and the end stone. After the removal of the two portal stones in the 19th century, it is now slightly higher than the thickness of the capstone; about 2.8 m. The capstone rests on three large stones. One appears to be a side stone and the other may be collapsed portal stones.
