Portal Tomb from Straleel North

The portal Tomb of Straleel North (also called Dermot and Grania's Bed, Irish Leaba Dhiarmada agus Ghráinne ) in the townland of Straleel North ( Irish Srath Laoill Thuaidh ) in County Donegal in Ireland is a more damaged portal Tomb . It stands on the moor east of Glencolumbkille , in the midst of rocks on a plain above the valley of the Sruhanstraleel River . In the British Isles, portal tombs are megalithic systems in which two equally high, upright stones with a door stone in between form the front of a chamber, which is covered with a sometimes huge capstone.

It consists of a small, east-opening, trapezoidal chamber about 2.0 m long and 0.6 by 0.8 m wide. The grassy, slightly oval mound that surrounds the structure measures approximately 9.5 by 9.0 m and is 0.3 m high. Three orthostats of the chamber have been preserved. A portal stone and a side stone form the north side. The portal stone has split and a piece of its tip has probably broken off. The side stone is inclined inwards. A third orthostat, opposite the side stone, forms the south side of the chamber. A smaller capstone lies on the two side stones. The main capstone is a large slab that overlies the front of the chamber. Its front end lies on the floor and its rear end is supported by the smaller capstone and the portal stone. The inside of the portal stone is about 1.0 m long and, intact, 0.4 m thick. The side stone is 0.9 m long, 0.2 m thick and would be upright 0.6 m high. The southern side stone is 0.9 m high. The small capstone measures 1.4 × 1.35 m and is 0.3 m thick. The large capstone is 2.5 m long, tapers from 2.1 m in the west to 1.3 m in the east and is 0.3 m thick.

Thomas Fagan visited the memorial in 1847 and it appears to have been in its present state by then.
