Porte de la Chapelle is an underground station on the Paris Métro . It is located below the Rue de la Chapelle in the 18th arrondissement of Paris and is served by Metro line 12 .
The station went into operation on August 23, 1916 when the northern extension of Line A from Jules Joffrin to the station was opened. On March 27, 1931, line A was renamed line 12. On December 18, 2012, the line was extended by one station to Front Populaire . Another extension of the route by two stations to Mairie d'Aubervilliers is already under construction.
Conversion from an end station to a through station
The track connection of the line extension runs through the previous queuing area. In order to enable driving through at the usual cruising speed, the track layout in this area had to be straightened.
In view of the expected increase in the number of passengers, the access to the platforms will also be improved: The station previously only had two entrances to the north of the station. Two additional entrances are now being created at the southern end of the platform. To the western platform with stairs and escalator; to the east platform with stairs and elevator. Information desks, ticket sales and access control are located on a spacious mezzanine.
Passenger numbers
While 3.4 million passengers were reported in 2011, the figure was only 2.9 million in 2013. This is because at the end of 2012 line 12 was extended by one station. Many passengers who previously boarded at Porte de la Chapelle now use the Front Populaire station . In 2013 there were 1.5 million passengers there.
