Front Populaire is a station on the metro network of the French capital Paris , on the border between the communes of Saint Denis and Aubervilliers in the Seine-Saint-Denis department .

history

The extension of Métrolinie 12 to the Front Populaire station is the first section of the planned extension via Aimé Césaire to Mairie d'Aubervilliers . Planning for this extension began in 2000, and construction work began in October 2007. Commissioning took place on December 18, 2012.

The name

In the original plans, the station was named Proudhon-Gardinoux . But since it is located on the newly created Place du Front Populaire , the name Front Populaire was finally chosen. The square owes its name to the left Popular Front government in office from 1936 to 1938 , whose memory is particularly vivid in the communist suburb of Aubervilliers.

The building

The building, which extends to a depth of 20 m, has three underground floors with four entrances, including a passenger elevator. An above-ground part functions as a light shaft through which daylight comes down.

Passenger numbers

In the first year of operation, 2013, almost 1.5 million passengers rose in Front Populaire, which brings the station to 282th place among the 303 metro stations.
