Port Penrhyn
Port Penrhyn ( Welsh: Porth Penrhyn ) is a port located east of Bangor in northern Wales . It is located at the mouth of the Cegin River . During the heyday of the slate industry in Wales in the 19th century, this port was of great importance. From there the slate was shipped, which was quarried in the Penrhyn quarry , then the largest slate quarry in the world.
The shipment of slate of Port Penrhyn from the first time is for 1713, when 14 ships total 415,000 shingles to Dublin transported. The port expanded after Richard Pennant took over the management of the Penrhyn estate himself. In 1790 a stone quay was built among other things. Since 1801 the Penrhyn Quarry Railway connected the port to the quarry. The port was expanded further in the years 1829-1830 and 1855.
