Portmarnock

Portmarnock ( Irish : Port Mearnóg ) is a town in County Fingal in Ireland, 15 km northeast of Dublin . At the 2006 census, Portmarnock had 8,979 inhabitants. Its station is on the Dublin - Belfast route and is served by some long-distance trains (between Dundalk and Dublin) and by the S-Bahn- like DART .

The city is known for its historic golf club and for the neighboring golf course designed by the German golfer Bernhard Langer , which belongs to the Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links. Both golf courses are on the same spit as the popular 4 km long Velvet Strand (" velvet beach "). At the northern end of the beach there is a Martello tower typical of the Irish east coast , which is now used as an apartment.
