Portuguese in Switzerland
The Portuguese in Switzerland immigrated mainly to French- speaking Switzerland . Portuguese are the third largest group of immigrants in Switzerland, surpassed only by Italians and Germans in Switzerland .
At the end of December 2015, there were 268,067 Portuguese living in Switzerland. Many descendants of Portuguese immigrants have also acquired Swiss citizenship and thus belong to the group of so-called secondos . Events that influenced immigration included the 1974 Carnation Revolution and the economic crisis since 2009 .
Associations
In addition to the two national associations Federação das Associações Portuguesas na Suíça (Faps) and Federação Portuguesa de Folclore e Etnografia na Suiça (Fpfes), there is a regional association in Valais as well as many political and commercial organizations, cultural and leisure organizations, folkloric cultural organizations, religious and social Organizations, youth organizations and education-oriented organizations and sports organizations.
Portuguese media in Switzerland are:
- the newspapers Gazeta Lusófona (Lucerne), Luso Helvético (Bussigny), the journal “O Portucalense” (Bôle);
- the magazines Luso Anuário (Thônex), the Guia Info Shop Portugal (Engelberg), the Pessoas Magazine (Geneva), Selectiva (Geneva);
- the radio stations Hora Lusitana (Radio Cité) (Geneva), Rádio Arremesso (Carouge), Nozes e Vozes (Radio Zones) (Geneva) and Radio Camoes (Luins).
