The cargo ship type Poseidon , even series Rudolf Diesel called, is a type of ship shipyard "Neptun" .
history
The ship type represents a versatile general cargo ship type, with which, in addition to conventional general cargo and bulk goods, containers, fruit and refrigerated cargoes can also be transported. The series was manufactured in nineteen units from 1975 to 1980. It was divided into the type Poseidon-271 and the further developed type Poseidon-280 . The Poseidon type was developed for the Levant journey. In the beginning, the ships were mainly used there; later one found the freighters in the worldwide tramp travel. The complete series was built for the German shipping company. The eight ships built after Rudolf Diesel were given names of places in the GDR that ended with "-walde", the last ten ships were named after lakes in the GDR.
The first ship and namesake of the series was the Rudolf Diesel with the hull number 271, which was handed over to the DSR on August 30, 1975. It was operated until 2004/05 and deleted from the register on March 13, 2005. The last ship in the series was the Trenntsee with hull number 289 , which was handed over on August 31, 1980. She has been sailing under the Cambodian flag as a marina since February 13, 2006 .
Several ships of this series were lost (see table). The Arend Sea was badly damaged by two detention mines in the port of Luanda on July 30, 1984 , temporarily lifted and sunk off the Angolan coast on September 5, 1984. The third detention mine did not explode, but the explosion would have damaged the ship so badly that it would have sunk within a few minutes. There were no victims in this terrorist attack. Most of the remaining ships in this series were sold to abandoners after 25 to 30 years of service. A handful of the ships are still in service today.
technology
The main drive of the Rudolf Diesel and the last ten ships is a medium-speed four-stroke diesel engine with the designation 12 VD48 / 42AL-2 developed by VEB Maschinenbau Halberstadt . He developed an output of around 5300 kW at 500 rpm and delivered this reduced to 174 rpm via a reduction gear to a variable-pitch propeller system from the manufacturer VEB Dieselmotorenwerk Rostock and a shaft generator . The engine type was often referred to as a "V-weapon". The remaining ships are powered by a 4000 kW K6Z 57 / 80F diesel engine from VEB Maschinenbau Halberstadt manufactured under a MAN license. The machine system is automated and designed for 24-hour guard-free operation. In addition to the shaft generator with 800 kW, two diesel generators - type SKL - 6 VD 26/20 AL-1 with 500 kW and type SKL - 6 VD 36/24 A-1 with 375 kW - were available. The mooring and casting off maneuvers were supported by a 375 kW bow thruster. The range of the ship type was around 10,000 nautical miles.
The sectional hulls of the ships have a bulbous bow and a slightly rounded transom . The deckhouse is partially air-conditioned.
The four holds have a volume of 8667 m³ grain space and 8223 m³ ball space and an intermediate deck. There is a refrigerated hold with 471 m³. The first nine ships have five electro-hydraulic 8-tonne luffing cranes. The later ships received five electrohydraulic 12.5 tonne luffing cranes. The cranes were divided into two Gemini double cranes and one single crane. The container capacity is 148 TEU, of which 110 TEU in space and 38 TEU on deck.
