Positions Berlin Art Fair

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair is an international art fair that takes place annually since 2014 as part of the Berlin Art Week.

Concept of the fair

The exhibitors at POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair are internationally operating galleries and art dealers. There are also individual special projects and collection presentations. A focus of the artistic positions shown is in the field of contemporary art , but also art of classical modernism and the post-war period and is presented by the exhibitors. With the aim of being able to relate positions from different eras and styles to one another, the fair deliberately refrained from separating them in the form of sections.

Characteristic of the formal appearance of the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair is the architecture consisting of white exhibition booths for presentations by up to 4 artists and walls for individual presentations. The stand concept designed by the Frankfurt company Leise Design is complemented by a design concept for exhibition furniture made of cardboard honeycomb panels.

History and venues

The first Positions Berlin Art Fair was opened in September 2014 on the three lower floors of the Jandorf department store, which had been largely empty until then and is located next to Volkspark am Weinberg in the Mitte district of Berlin. For the second edition, the fair moved to the much larger hall of the Arena Berlin in Berlin-Treptow. With a consistently high number of participants, the third POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair 2016 took place in the Postbahnhof at Ostbahnhof and came back to the Arena Berlin for its 4th edition in 2017. In 2018 the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair will open for the first time in the former Berlin-Tempelhof Airport. The fair has been a permanent partner of Berlin Art Week since it was founded.
