Possum
A number of marsupial mammals of the order Diprotodontia from the Australian area are called possums , namely a majority or all of the representatives of the suborder Phalangeriformes. The term used mainly in English sometimes appears in German as well. Possums are not to be confused with the opossums , a group of opossums native to America.
Among other things, the following animals are referred to as possums:
- Kusus (Brush-tailed Possum)
- Bilchbeutler (Pygmy Possum)
- Ringbeutler (Ring-tailed Possum), including Felsenringbeutler (Rock Possum) and Riesengleitbeutler (Greater Gliding Possum)
- Gliding squirrel bag (Petauridae), including gliding squirrel bag (Gliding Possum) and striped Possum (Striped Possum)
- Acrobatidae (Acrobatidae), including feather-tailed possum (Feather-tailed Possum)
- Honey Beutler (Honey Possum)
