Postgraduate Certificate in Education

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) is a certificate in England , Wales and Northern Ireland that allows one to work as a teacher. The equivalent in Scotland is called the Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).

A bachelor's degree is a prerequisite for this teacher training course . The course lasts one year. During this time you are already working as a teacher and studying at a university or other higher educational institution at the same time.

The tuition fee is around £ 3,000. However, depending on the subject, a grant of £ 4,000 to £ 9,000 can be obtained. Students in Scotland and Northern Ireland do not receive a scholarship but do not pay a tuition fee.

Private schools do not generally require a PGCE. However, applicants with PGCE are often preferred.

The PGCE is the most common type of teacher training in England and Wales. However, there are other ways to become a teacher.
