Domingo Brescia (* 1866 in Pirano ; † 1939 ) was an Italian composer and music teacher.

In his childhood and youth, Brescia had lessons in harmony, counterpoint, violin and piano from José Ventrella , a student of Saverio Mercadante . From 1885 to 1888 he studied composition with Amilcare Ponchielli at the Conservatory in Milan , then counterpoint with Alessandro Busi and composition with Giuseppe Martucci at the Bologna Conservatory . Here he received his diploma as a maestro compositor in 1889 .

He then took over the position of director of the city's Instituto Musical and worked as choirmaster of the Teatro Lirico in the performance of Richard Wagner's Parsifal . At the same time he was composing the opera Vesperi . In 1892 he traveled to Concepción in Chile, where he was one of the co-founders of the Liceo literary academy . Works such as the cantata Alla Sciencia , the religious piece Bíblica , the folkloric Danzando en la era and the three-act opera La Salinara were created in Concepción .

In 1898 Brescia went to the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Santiago de Chile, where he became professor of harmony and counterpoint in the same year. His students included u. a. Pedro Humberto Allende Sarón , Enrique Soro Barriga , Carlos Isamitt , Javier Rengifo and María Luisa Sepúlveda . In 1899 his opera La Salinara was performed at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago . In Santiago he composed a. a. Songs based on texts by Heinrich Heine in Italian translation as well as various works for piano and violin and piano.

In 1904, Brescia left the Conservatory in Santiago and went to Ecuador. Here he headed the Conservatory in Quito until 1911, where Segundo Luis Moreno and Luis Humberto Salgado were among his students. In Ecuador he composed his Sinfonía Ecuatoriana .
