Javier Rengifo

Javier Rengifo (born March 17, 1884 in Santiago de Chile , † October 26, 1958 there ) was a Chilean composer .

Life

Javier Rengifo studied in Santiago de Chile. In 1902 he became director of the Academia Musical des Colegio de los Padres Franceses . From 1904 he was a diplomat at the Chilean Embassy in Brussels . During the First World War he returned to Chile, where he devoted himself to the performance of works by Wagner and contemporary composers such as Alfonso Leng , Pedro Humberto Allende Sarón , Marta Canales , Próspero Bisquertt and Celerino Pereira . After another visit to Europe, he founded the Conservatorio Popular in Santiago in 1925 . From 1928 he was director of the music academy and the chamber orchestra of the Club de la Unión .

Rengifo composed two operas , a zarzuela and a ballet pantomime, a symphonic picture, a pastoral poem and the suite española for orchestra, chamber music works, hymns for choir and orchestra and a cantata for solo voice and orchestra.
