Postcode (Azerbaijan)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Postcode areas in Azerbaijan after the first two digits

The Azerbaijani postcodes are four digits. There are no separators or subscriptions.

The four-digit postcode shows the national format AZ NNNN . The first two digits indicate the regions of Azerbaijan in line with modern administrative departments , including the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and Nagorno-Karabakh .

Previous system

Prior to independence, the six-digit Soviet postcodes were used in the nationwide format 37NNNN , which was introduced in 1970. After independence, the structure was changed, only the first two posts, which were uniform throughout Azerbaijan, were omitted. The postcodes were thus four digits.

Individual evidence

  1. In areas controlled by the internationally unrecognized Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, the postcodes are technically out of order and mail between Nagorno-Karabakh and the rest of Azerbaijan is not delivered.
