Postcode (Namibia)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Postal codes in Namibia have existed again since the beginning of 2018. Previously, these had been unknown since 1990.

Since 2018

At the beginning of 2018, Nampost introduced five-digit postcodes. These were revised again and finally published in January 2019. The postcodes are structured in three hierarchies:

  • Region - the first two digits that correspond to the 14 regions and range from 10 to 23
  • Post Office - the last two digits

The third digit is currently always a "0". It should later serve the possibility of delivery to street addresses.

Before 1990

Before independence, Namibian receiving addresses ( PO Box or P / bag ) were assigned to the South African postal code system. The zip code area 9000 - 9299 was valid for Namibia including Walvis Bay .

Occasionally z. B. in state Namibian forms (as of August 2018) still asked for a postcode. Since 1990, the 9000 has been entered as a placeholder.
