Postural integration

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Postural integration is an alternative medical body therapy method developed by Jack Painter in the sixties and seventies of the 20th century .

The method is based on the Rolfing method , a deep connective tissue massage , which Jack Painter has expanded to include methods of integrative breathing work , gestalt therapy , methods from body psychotherapy according to Wilhelm Reich and Far Eastern methods such as acupressure . The method takes psychological processes into account more than the Rolfing method. The method assumes that all mental, emotional and physical processes are inextricably linked.

history

During his tenure as a professor of philosophy at the University of Miami, Painter took an interest in working with the body. He explored many different possibilities himself - massage, acupuncture, Zen, yoga, gestalt therapy (with Fritz Perl and Marty Fromm), techniques that are derived from the work of Ida Rolf (with Bill Williams), the theories of William Reich in the form of vegetotherapy (with Raffaele Estrada Villa) and many others.

Over time, his interest in integrated influences and views of these different possibilities of effective and coherent methods of personal growth, self-development and healing grew, which in the 1970s led to a development in the form of a holistic treatment of the body, which he Postural Integration called. However, he testified: "... the type of bodywork that I have created is not a versatile combination of techniques that I have experienced or taught - it is an extraordinary approach to the whole personality".

application

The PI practitioner works simultaneously with deep tissue massage, breathing exercises and energy flows.

During the sessions, emotional expression is supported and encouraged. Additional approaches include bodymind drama and movement awareness. The ultimate goal of Postural Integration is to gain the ability to unite the body mind - that is, to bring the body, the emotions and the inner attitude of the patient into harmony.

In the course of more than ten sessions - a session usually lasts 60 to 90 minutes - the postural integration process is formed from: influencing deep relaxation and the reshaping of pain perception, combined with gentle energetic work, acupressure and elements of the five-phase Systems.

Postural integration is taught and practiced in Europe, USA, Canada, Mexico, South Africa and Australia. Courses and trainers for postural integration are combined in the organization International Council of Psycho Corporal (Bodymind) Integration Trainers .

In the 1990s, Psychotherapeutic Postural Integration developed from Postural Integration, a recognized procedure of the European Association for Body Psychotherapy .

Insofar as the methods used in postural integration can be manualized, they correspond to those of many other body psychotherapeutic methods combined in the German Society for Body Psychotherapy.

According to the DGK, body psychotherapeutic treatment methods should be the most frequently used second method in psychotherapy.
