Deluge (novel)

Deluge ( Polish Potop ) is a historical novel by the Polish writer Henryk Sienkiewicz from 1886 .

The book is the second part of a trilogy consisting of the works With Fire and Sword (1884) , this novel and Mr. Wołodyjowski (1888) . It deals with the Swedish-Polish War between 1655 and 1657 . In 1655, the Swedish army began an invasion of Poland, supported by a section of the Polish nobility who wanted to overthrow the king. One of those who desperately oppose the invasion is the passionate Andrzej Kmicic, who has to gain bitter experiences on the battlefield, but who always gains new strength through his love for Olenka and his homeland.
