Powercon (proper spelling powerCON ) is a proprietary rubber connector for the power supply of devices with single-phase alternating current with currents up to 20 amps , in a special form up to 32 amps. The system was developed by Neutrik from Liechtenstein and is legally protected under the trademarks "PowerCON" and True1. It is mainly offered for stage technology . Phase, neutral conductor and protective conductor are protected against accidental contact. The plugs are locked against accidental disconnection.

Overview

The connectors are available in two versions: blue for the input of mains voltage to a device, gray for the transmission of mains voltage from one device to another. Plugs and sockets are mechanically designed differently so that gray cannot be accidentally plugged into blue. There are coupling parts with a blue and a gray side for extending connecting cables.

The color coding is chosen so that only one live contact and one live contact can be connected to one another with the same color. In addition, the contacts of the two series (blue and gray) are mirror-inverted, so that a combination of plugs and sockets of different colors is not possible. This guarantees increased operational safety, with no connection between two live components .

The earth contact ( protective conductor ) is not designed in advance. Connections may therefore only be made and released when neither side is under tension. PowerCon cannot and must therefore not be used for wall sockets in a house network. The further development Powercon TRUE1 (see below ), however, meets the requirements and can therefore also be plugged in under load.

The built-in sockets have the same bore and installation dimensions as the XLR sockets from Neutrik's D-series and the speakON sockets and can thus be integrated into existing 19 " rack panels.

The mechanical design and the dimensions of the connectors are very similar to the speakON system for loudspeaker connections, but PowerCon is mechanically protected against accidental mix-ups.

Powercon 32A

Larger black Powercon plugs and sockets with a load capacity of up to 32 amps are available for applications with increased power requirements (e.g. for the lighting of stages). The connector was developed at the suggestion of theaters that were looking for a replacement for their Eberl connectors according to DIN 56905 that took up little space.

Powercon TRUE1

powerCON TRUE1, old version

Powercon "TRUE1" is a lockable plug-in device (i.e. it can be plugged in under load and voltage) with a current rating of up to 16 amps. There are cable plugs and sockets as well as built-in plugs and sockets. The new generation NAC3MX-W and NAC3FX-W has a yellow rubber sealing ring and the cable inlet grommet is made of yellow rubber, instead of slotted screws Torx-8 screws are used. In addition to the NPFK-XYZ version, these now also have IP65 protection. This IP65 protection is only valid when plugged in or in connection with a protective cap.
