The Kyoto Prefectural University ( Jap. 京都府立大学 , Kyoto-Furitsu daigaku ; Engl. Kyoto Prefectural University , in short: KPU ) is a public university in Japan . It is located in Shimogamo, Nakaragi-chō, Sakyō-ku , Kyōto , with a campus in Seika added in 2011 .

history

In 1949 the Saikyō University ( 西京 大学 , Saikyō Daigaku , dt. "The university of the western capital [= Kyōto]") was founded. Her predecessors were the Kyōto Prefectural Agricultural and Forestry College ( 京都 府 立 農林 専 門 学校 ; Kyōto-furitsu nōrin semmon gakkō ) and the Kyōto Prefectural Women's Technical School ( 京都 府 立 女子 専 門 学校 ; Kyōto-furitsu joshi semmon gakkō ). From this the Prefectural University of Kyoto developed.

Kyoto Prefectural Agriculture and Forestry School

The technical school was founded in 1895 as the Prefectural Shorter Agricultural School Kyōto ( 京都 府 簡易 農 学校 , Kyōto-fu kan'i nōgakkō ). For the first year she used a building in the Buddhist temple . In 1898 it became a normal (not shorter) agricultural school. In 1904 it was renamed the Kyōto Prefectural Agriculture and Forestry School ( 京都 府 立 農林 学校 , Kyōto-furitsu nōrin gakkō ). In 1918 she moved to today's campus.

In February 1944 it developed into the Kyōto Prefectural Higher Agriculture and Forestry School ( 京都 府 立 高等 農林 学校 , Kyōto-furitsu kōtō nōrin gakkō ), which was renamed in July 1944 in the Prefectural Agriculture and Forestry School of Kyoto.

Kyōto Prefectural Women's College

The women's college was founded in 1927; first she took courses in literature, home economics, and science. In 1933 she moved to the new Katsura campus ( Ukyō-ku , Kyōto).

Saikyō University / Kyoto Prefectural University

Saikyō University initially had two faculties: the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Literature and Home Economics. In 1959 it was renamed Kyoto Prefectural University. In 1962 the Faculty of Literature and Home Economics moved to today's campus. Since 2008, the Prefectural University and the Prefectural Medical University of Kyoto ( 京都 府 立 医科大学 , Kyōto-furitsu ika daigaku ) are supported by the prefectural university body.
