The 1st presidential election in South Korea took place on July 20, 1948.
history
After the elections to the National Assembly in May 1948, presidential and vice-presidential elections were held in South Korea on July 20, 1948. The President should be elected by the members of the National Assembly in accordance with the requirements of the 1948 Constitution. Of the 198 members of the National Assembly, 196 were present for the vote. A candidate needed two-thirds of the votes cast to win. Rhee Syng-man was elected with 180 votes and took over government to oversee the transfer of power from the United States Army military government in Korea.
Lee Si-yeong was elected the first Vice President of South Korea .
