The presidential building of the government of Upper Franconia in Bayreuth began in 1902 and was inaugurated on October 20, 1904. It is located on the baroque Residenzplatz across from the New Palace and served as the administrative seat of the government of Upper Franconia .

The main facade made of sandstone is shaped by historicism , it shows mainly neo-baroque elements (such as the four head sculptures under the eaves). The influence of Art Nouveau , which is only hinted at in details on the exterior , is clearly evident in several representative interiors designed by well-known architects and interior designers, such as the district council room and the reception room.

The President's reception room and study

The government president's reception room and office are on the first floor .

The reception room was designed by the Munich architects Joseph and Franz Rank , who were awarded a bronze medal at the 1904 World Exhibition in St. Louis . The room is characterized by harmonious proportions and superbly crafted maple paneling with delicate, geometric inlays .

The office of the district president, which is directly adjacent to the reception room, was designed by Bruno Paul and awarded a Grand Prix at the world exhibition. The dark oak paneling on the wall, combined with a coffered ceiling clad in light ash wood, gives the study a very classy, dignified impression.

District Council Hall

The district council room, which was designed by the architect Martin Dülfer , who is primarily known for his theater buildings and designs, is located on the 2nd floor . The interior of the hall was also awarded my Grand Prix at the world exhibition. The materials and the design are harmoniously coordinated, the room appears to be made of one piece. The walls are paneled with mahogany , the coats of arms of the Upper Franconian cities are inlaid in the individual panels (except for the cities of the former Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha , which only became part of Bavaria and the administrative district of Upper Franconia in 1920).
