Nomocharis

The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.

Nomocharis is the name of a former genus in the family of the lily family (Liliaceae). It is also called the magnificent lily and consisted of six to eight species that are native to China, Myanmar and India and Nepal.

The genus has always been viewed as closely related to the lily , and its taxonomic status has long been debated. It is now considered certain that the genus can be incorporated into the lilies.

description

Nomocharis grow from ovoid to ovoid-round bulbs and are 25 to 100 (rarely up to 150) centimeters tall. The flat, slightly bowl-shaped flower consists of six bracts , the colors of which - depending on the species - differ from white to pink, red and purple to a pale purple, the inner bracts are often patterned.

distribution

All species of the genus are native to the alpine region of the southwest of the People's Republic of China as well as neighboring Myanmar and India. They prefer cool and moist locations in the shade in humus soil.

Systematics

The genus was first described in 1889 by Adrien René Franchet and traditionally comprises seven species, the classification of the group around Nomocharis aperta and Nomocharis forrestii is considered taxonomically complicated , which is why only six or even ten species were occasionally listed.

In 2012, with Nomocharis gongshanensis, another species was described, so that the genus currently comprises eight to ten species in two sections:

  • Section Eunomocharis :
  • Section Ecristata :

There are also the following types (without membership of a section):

The exact taxonomic position with regard to the lilies ( Lilium ) was always unclear. Many molecular genetic studies made sure that the genus in the lilies can be integrated between other Asian species, but their exact position could not be determined. Only in 2016 was the genus taxonomically incorporated into the lilies.
