The Praga E-51 was a twin-engine military aircraft produced by the Czechoslovak company ČKD-Praga , which was intended to be used as a reconnaissance aircraft and light bomber .

overview

The aircraft designer was Jaroslav Šlechta. The design followed a tender from the Ministry of National Defense from 1936, which wanted to replace the outdated Letov Š-328 and Aero A.100 types . In addition to the Praga E-51, the Letov Š-50 and Aero A.304 models were developed, with the latter finally being awarded the contract for series production.

The official maiden flight of the Praga E-51 took place on May 26, 1938. A number of shortcomings, particularly with the shooting range in the tail of the aircraft fuselage and with the wings, meant that the start of series production was delayed. The development of the aircraft ended with the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the German Reich in March 1939.

In early 1940, the Praga E-51 was discovered by German engineers, whereupon the prototype was brought to the Rechlin test site in July 1940 . After extensive testing, the Leichtflugzeugbau Klemm company in Boeblingen received the E-51 as a study object on March 6, 1941. There, on June 12, 1941, they lost track of them with the transfer to Darmstadt; scrapping and scrapping is likely.
