Prakash Karat (born February 7, 1948 in Letpadan , Burma ) is an Indian politician .

Life

Karat attended Madras Christian College School in Chennai . He studied politics at the University of Edinburgh . After finishing his studies, Karat got a job as a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University . Since 2005 he has been chairman of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) . In addition to his political activities, he works as a writer and has published several books. The atheist Karat is married and lives in New Delhi .
