Pramnian wine

Pramnian wine (Greek: Pramnios Oinos ) was a valued type of wine in antiquity , which is already mentioned by Homer . It is considered the first wine in literature whose place of origin was known and is therefore also regarded as the first designation of origin .

In the history of viticulture in Greece , the original cultivation area is above all Mount Pramne on the island of Ikaria , where in ancient Pramnia Petra , near the port town of Evdilos on the north coast, from the 8th century BC at the latest. The pramnios oinos was made. Later the wine also came from Lesbos and Smyrna and even from mainland Greece. At the time of Athenaios it was therefore only a generic term for good quality dark wine.
