Pravasi Bharatiya Samman

The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman ( English Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award , also Non-Resident Indian Award , abbreviation PBSA ) is a high state award of India , with which deserving people of the Indian diaspora have been honored since 2003 .

Procedure

The award of the prize is formally made by the Indian President . The award ceremony is part of the program of the Pravasi Bharatiya Diva on January 9th each year, the Non-resident Indian Day , a special day of remembrance for Indians abroad. This day commemorates the arrival of Mahatma Gandhis in India after leaving South Africa . All proposals for the award ceremony, the preparations and the overall organizational responsibility for this day lie with the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA).

criteria

The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman can be awarded to Indians residing outside India ( Non-resident Indian , NRIs) and to persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) who have another citizenship. Organizations and institutions that are founded on the commitment of such persons or are led by them can also receive this award.

Criteria for the award of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman are merits:

  • for a better understanding of India abroad,
  • to support Indian affairs in a special way,
  • to form close relationships between India, the Indian overseas community and their country of residence,
  • for social and humanitarian services in India or abroad,
  • by supporting a regional Indian community
  • through philanthropic and charitable work
  • through special achievements in one's own field of activity or other excellent work that has served the reputation of India in the country of residence of the person and
  • by the high standing of capable people, which has increased the prestige of India abroad (for volunteer work).
