Preikestolhytta is a mountain hut in the municipality of Strand in Fylke Rogaland in Norway .

It is the starting point of the hiking trail leading to the famous Pulpit Rock and offers tourist and gastronomic services as well as accommodation options. In a large car park belonging to the facility, buses in particular are parked with which tourists are brought to the Pulpit Rock hiking trail in the course of mass tourism. There are also hiking trails to other destinations such as Moslifjellet and Gryteknuten .

The Preikestolhytta is at an altitude of about 280 meters at the north end above the lake Revsvatnet . It is connected to Riksvei 13 by a road about six kilometers long .

history

Preikestolhytta was built in 1949 near the old Vatne farm. In 2008 an extensive new building made of wood was built, which was inaugurated in November 2008. The client was the Stavanger Tourism Association, the design came from the architecture firm Helen & Hard from Stavanger. In 2009 the project was awarded the Statens byggeskikkpris . In addition to a café, a restaurant and a conference room, as well as an exhibition on tourism in the Ryfylke region , which was developed with the Ryfylkemuseet .
