Premabüba

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Premabüba is a carnival event that has been taking place regularly in Saarland since 1948 . This event was for a time the largest of its kind in this state. The acronym stands for " Pre SSE Ma LER Bu hnen- Ba ll".

history

Congress hall, venue of the Premabüba

The forerunners of the Premabüba were the "Saarbrücken Press and Artists Festival", which took place for the first time on March 7, 1914. From 1927 the "Press and Stage Ball" (Prebüh) was held, which was also the name of the forerunner of the carnival event, and was expanded with the entry of the painters to the "Premabüh".

The first event under the name Premabüba took place on February 7, 1948, three years after the end of World War II . The premiere was held in the Saarland State Theater . All events took place there until 1967. The venue had to be changed for security reasons, and the Congress Hall has been used as an event location since 1967 .

The carnival celebration was canceled only three times in its long history: in 1962 because of the severe mining accident in Luisenthal , in 1991 because of the First Gulf War and in 2007 because of renovation work.

concept

The concept of the event was revised several times, most recently in 2012. Over the years, a certain motto has remained, which dictated the respective decoration, for example “A flower festival in Peru” (1956) or “South Seas Romatic” (1982). As early as 1948, through the voluntary work of various associations, the event was extended to two days, and later to three days. In 1986 a youth ball was added and in 1987 the “Firmabüba” was created, an event for companies and authorities. In 1999 the event had to be reduced to two and in 2004 to one day. Two days were held again for its 60th anniversary in 2008. The proceeds from the event initially went to the repair and reconstruction of the state theater, after which "the social funds of stage artists and technicians, painters and journalists" were financed.

At its weddings, the Premabüba attracted 15,000 spectators. The star guests included Zarah Leander , Udo Jürgens , Marlène Charell and Rudi Carrell . In 2010 there were 4,300 and in 2011 3,500 visitors. The Congress Centrum Saar has been relying on artists from the region since 2012. In the meantime, the Weiberfaasenacht, also organized by the Congress Centrum Saar (also in the Congress Hall ), has become the most popular indoor event in the Saarland carnival.
