Premiu Nacional de Lliteratura Asturiana
The Premiu Nacional de Lliteratura Asturiana (translated National Award for Asturian literature ) is a first time in 2016 by the Academia de la Llingua Asturiana (Academy of Asturian language) ausgelobter and since 2017 award literary prize for living writers who through their literary work in Asturian language particularly emerged.
The prize is awarded every three years and is endowed with 3000 euros. The winners also receive a medal designed by the sculptor Adolfo Manzano and a small anthology of works that represent the literary work.
The jury consists of the President of the Academy and three other members of the Academy, a representative of the Conseyería d'Educación y Cultura (Culture and Education Office) of the Asturian government and two university experts who specialize in the Asturian language.
Organized award ceremonies
After the publication of the rules of the award on September 15, 2016 and the opening of the application deadline, the following finalists resulted: Xuan Bello , Antón García, Roberto González-Quevedo, Berta Piñán and Xuan Xosé Sánchez Vicente.
The jury's verdict was published on January 13, 2017, and the winner was Xuan Bello.
In its justification, the jury emphasized, including his Hestoria Universal de Paniceiros , published in 2002, that he had put Asturian “on the map of Spanish and international literature” . At this first award ceremony, the jury consisted of Ana María Cano (President of the Academy), the academicians Xosé Antón González Riaño, Xosé Ramón Iglesias and Carmen Muñiz Chacón, the representative of the Department of Culture and Education Fernando Padilla Palicio and the professors from the University of Oviedo José Luis García Martín and Leopoldo Sánchez Torre.
