The peel

The Peel is a tower house near the Scottish town of East Kilbride in the Council Area of South Lanarkshire . In 1963 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. The Peel's former stables are independently classified as a Category A monument.

description

The building is isolated between East Kilbride and Thorntonhall in South Lanarkshire, Busby in East Renfrewshire and Carmunnock in Council Area Glasgow . The Kittoch Water runs to the north and flows into the White Cart Water to the west.

The oldest parts of the four-story defense tower are believed to date from the early 16th century. Over the centuries, The Peel has been expanded several times. Construction phases are recorded in the 17th and 18th centuries and 1878. The Tower House now forms the northwest corner of the complex. While the masonry has probably been completely preserved in its original state, the final gable roof is from more recent times. The facades are plastered with Harl . The adjacent stair tower towers over the Tower House. It probably dates from the 17th century. Wings from later construction phases extend to the south and east.

The stables to the east date from the 17th century. Their gables are designed as a stepped gable .
