history

According to Historic Scotland, however, these date from the 13th century. Prestonkirk Parish Church was built in the 1770s and was added to the bell tower, which dates back to the 17th century. After the medieval choir was revised in 1818 , further redesigns were carried out in 1824 and 1891. The Prestonkirk Parish Church was the parish church of the Parish Prestonkirk . This merged with the neighboring communities of Stenton and Whittingehame to form the Parish Traprain .

description

Prestonkirk Parish Church is located on the northern edge of East Linton not far from the banks of the Tynes . The two-story bell tower rises on the southwest side. Like the rest of the church, it is kept simple. Several arched windows are let into the facade . The tower closes with a curved, slate-covered dome. Unlike the adjoining nave, the masonry of which is made of red sandstone blocks , the quarry stone on the older tower is only roughly cut into blocks. On the six-axis south side there are two arched entrance portals with ornamented keystones . The south facade, which is three axes wide, is designed with high arched windows. On the left is a stair tower from the 1890s, the masonry of which is made of cream-colored sandstone. The nave closes with a slate roof . A short medieval choir continues on the east facade. It is designed with lancet windows.
