Pretoria Station is the main train station of the South African capital Pretoria . The station, designed as a terminus and through station, is located on Scheiding Street at the junction with Paul Kruger Street.
The original station was built in 1892 by the Nederlandsch-Zuid-Afrikaansche Spoorwegmaatschappij (NZASM) as one of the endpoints of the Pretoria – Lourenço Marques railway line . The current building dates from 1910 and was built by Sir Herbert Baker .
In local traffic, the station serves as the end point of the northern lines of the Gauteng Metrorail . For the standard gauge Gautrain , a new platform was created as a terminal station next to the station building. The station serves as a hairpin in the directions Hatfield and Johannesburg Park Station . The Blue Train luxury train has one of its endpoints here. Access to the Blue Train Lounge is on the east side of the station building.
Due to delays in train traffic, travelers set the station on fire on February 19, 2001. The renovation lasted until February 2002 and cost 18 million rand .
