Pretzel Logic (German: " Brezel -Logik") is a song by the jazz rock band Steely Dan , which was released in 1974 as the second single from the album Pretzel Logic . It peaked at number 67 on the Billboard charts.
General
Author Anthony Robustelli describes Pretzel Logic in his book Steely Dan FAQ as a bluesy shuffle about time travel . Fagen himself stated that the lyrics, including anachronistic references to Napoleon and Minstrel shows , were time travel.
Rolling Stone Magazine critic Bud Scoppa describes Pretzel Logic as one of the most conventional songs on the album, calling it a "modified blues". Scoppa praised the electric guitar improvisations for their originality and for pedal steel guitar parts that wouldn't sound like country music, and attributed them to Jeff Baxter, even though Steely Dan biographer Brian Sweet Walter Becker said they played the guitar . Pretzel Logic is one of the first Steely Dan songs in which Walter Becker appears as lead guitarist. Eduardo Rivadavia quotes Pretzel Logic as one of several songs on the album on which Steely Dan depicts her branded sound "as sweet and infectious as it is deceptively entangled, dark and funny".
