The Preussische Rentenversicherungsanstalt was a private, non-profit pension insurance company in Prussia . It was opened in 1838 and existed until 1929.

The Prussian Pension Insurance Institution was founded for the residents of the Prussian State with the purpose of ensuring their members, both for themselves and for their relatives, according to their ability to work or to improve their subsistence. The statutes were on October 9, 1838 by the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. confirmed by the sovereign. The seat of the institution was in Berlin . One of the founders was Joseph Mendelssohn , who was significantly involved in drafting the statutes, worked on the board of trustees until his death in 1848 and whose bank initially handled the financial transfers between the regional agencies and the Berlin headquarters. Ludwig Blesson became the founding director and held the position until his death.

The facility was accessible to all Prussian subjects, regardless of gender, class, religion and regardless of the age or health of the person entering. As a contribution to the administrative costs of the institution, an entrance fee of 15 silver groschen was imposed on each deposit . The persons who joined the institute in the same year formed an annual company. As a rule, a new annual company was formed for each year. The members of an annual society were divided into six classes according to their age.

The establishment was administered by a board of trustees and a management . There was also a commission for the special business of the establishment. The members of the Board of Trustees and the Commission were elected. The Prussian king assigned a president to the board of trustees. The members of the management had to be confirmed by the Prussian Ministry of the Interior and the police. Several agencies have been set up to improve accessibility .

In 1929 the Prussian pension insurance company merged with the life insurance company for the army and navy and the Kaiser Wilhelms donation . In the same year, the name was changed to Deutsche Beamten-Versicherung, public life and pension insurance company DBV. In 1990 the DBV Holding AG was founded and in 1996 the Winterthur insurance company in Munich was taken over and the name was changed to DBV-Winterthur Holding AG. In 2006 it was sold to the AXA Group .
