Price's rattlesnake ( Crotalus pricei ) is a small species of rattlesnake ( Crotalus ) that is found in two subspecies in isolated areas in Arizona and Mexico .
features
Price's rattlesnake is a small rattlesnake with an average body length of about 50 centimeters, which rarely becomes up to 60 centimeters long.
The basic color of the snake is mostly gray and can also be brown or reddish brown. The drawing pattern consists of spots arranged in pairs on the back. These spots can merge centrally and thus form broad transverse spots or bars. A dark temple band extends from the eye to the corner of the mouth.
distribution and habitat
Price's rattlesnake is common in two subspecies in isolated areas in Arizona and Mexico . The very narrow and small area in which C. p. miquihuanus is found in the eastern Sierra Madre . The nominate form C. p. pricei , on the other hand, is found in a long distribution area from Arizona in the United States of America to the western Sierra Madre . Both populations are separated from each other by a distribution gap several hundred kilometers wide.
As a habitat, the snake prefers rocky mixed pine and oak forests facing south at altitudes of 2,000 to 3,000 meters. However, they can also be found in other habitats at a comparable altitude.
Snake venom
Specific effects and ingredients of the venom of this snake are unknown. It produces only small amounts of poison, which are likely to be relatively mild in effect.
