Pride (In the Name of Love) is a song by the Irish rock band U2 . It is the second track on their 1984 album The Unforgettable Fire . The song was released as a single in September 1984. The piece is about the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. The single received average reviews from the music press, but it was an enormous economic success for the band. Today Pride (In the Name of Love) is one of the most famous songs by the band and is regularly played at their concerts. The song appeared on the U2 compilation The Best of 1980-1990 as the first track and was also found on the 2006 album U218 Singles .

A techno version of the song by Clivillés & Cole made it to number 15 on the British charts in 1992 .
